Carbon fiber and glass fiber have the following differences in strength and toughness

Carbon fiber and glass fiber have the following differences in strength and toughness:

1. Strength:
Carbon fiber: the strength is very high, its tensile strength can reach more than 4000MPa, about ten times higher than the strength of steel, is a high-strength reinforced fiber material. The high strength of carbon fiber makes it widely used in aerospace, automobile manufacturing, sporting goods and other fields that require very high material strength, such as the fuselage structure of aircraft, lightweight components of automobiles, high-performance bicycle frames and so on.
- Glass fiber: Strength is also higher, but lower than carbon fiber. The tensile strength of glass fiber is usually between 1000MPa-3000MPa, but its strength is still enough to meet the needs of many application scenarios, such as FRP products in the construction field, hull reinforcement materials in shipbuilding.

2. Toughness:

Carbon fiber: Toughness is relatively good, but slightly less than glass fiber. Carbon fiber has a certain toughness, can resist cracking under stress or absorb energy, but its toughness performance is not as good as some materials that specifically emphasize toughness. In practical applications, carbon fiber composite materials can maintain the structural integrity to a certain extent when subjected to impact or vibration, but if subjected to too much impact force, it may still break.
Glass fiber: Generally speaking, glass fiber has good toughness, and can be deformed to a certain extent and not easily broken when subjected to external force. This makes the glass fiber has an advantage in some occasions that need to withstand a certain degree of deformation or impact, such as in the manufacture of pipes, wind power blades and other products, glass fiber can adapt to complex working environments and forces.

Overall, carbon fiber has a clear advantage in strength, while the toughness of glass fiber is relatively good. However, the specific performance will also be affected by many factors such as the manufacturing process of the fiber, the structural design of the product and the use environment. In practical applications, appropriate materials need to be selected according to specific needs and use scenarios.
