Electronic speed controllers (ESCs) play a crucial role in the operation of drones. These devices act as a bridge between the drone's flight controller and its electric motors.

The flight controller is like the "brain" of the drone, making decisions about the drone's movement. It sends out signals to the ESCs. When the flight controller needs to adjust the speed of a particular motor, it transmits a specific signal to the corresponding ESC.

Upon receiving this signal, the ESC then takes action. It has the ability to raise or lower the voltage supplied to the motor, precisely as required. Since the speed of an electric motor is directly related to the voltage it receives, by altering the voltage, the ESC effectively changes the speed of the motor. And as the motor rotates the propeller, this ultimately leads to a change in the speed of the propeller.

This precise control over the motor speeds is essential for the drone to maintain stable flight, perform maneuvers such as turns, ascents, and descents, and execute complex tasks like aerial surveys or package deliveries. Without ESCs, the flight controller would have no way to regulate the power going to the motors, and the drone's operation would be severely hampered.
